With a DittyTV Debut of his video for “Good Time Charlie’s Got the Blues” coming up this week on Campfire (Wednesday evening, June 17 at 6/5c), we thought now would be a great time to touch base with legendary folk-rocker Steve Forbert. And we’re glad we did. What an awesome guy!
The GRAMMY-nominated singer/songwriter’s new album, Early Morning Rain, is now available on Blue Rose Music, his first collection of cover songs since his tribute to Jimmy Rodgers, Any Old Time, in 2002. The official video for the album’s first single, Danny O’Keefe’s “Good Time Charlie’s Got the Blues,” was directed and edited by Thomas Parr, and we hope you check it out Wednesday evening. “The first single was first a hit for Danny O’Keefe in 1972 and has been on my list of favorites ever since,” Forbert says. “I’ve always liked it because it was well-written and rang true. Right now, however, the lonesome lyrics seem to sync right up with the self-quarantine, Coronavirus strangeness of daily life.”
Speaking of the current pandemic, Forbert has released a song for that, too. Take a listen to “Rand” here.
DittyTV Senior Editor Tim W. Jackson touched base with Forbert through the amazing technology of a video call. Unfortunately, it wasn’t 100% amazing because they hit a glitch right around the 22-minute mark, but pros that they are, they persevered, and you can see the full interview here.
